Friday Fictioneers – The Fog Of War

24 August, 2012

Here are my 100 words, and i welcome all comments.

Thanks to Madison for this prompt.

We advanced from the north at six that morning, crouching between the trees, the fog drifting from the river hiding our surprise attack. Our intelligence said they had a small squad to the east, and when there was gunfire, we engaged. When the shooting stopped, we had lost half of our troop.

We sent a scout who informed us, an hour later, the eastern fire had been friendly. Their intelligence had told them to expect us from the south. They spotted movement to the north, and had fired on the supposed enemy, shrouded beneath the fog. The fog of war.

  1. Really good RG. Loved the twist!

  2. And sadly, I can see this actually happening, too. Nice one, TRG.

  3. TheOthers1 permalink

    Dang. Great storytelling.
