Choon Choosday: Johnny Cash – Folsom Prison Blues (live)

It was only about a dozen years ago that I learned to appreciate the Cash. Maybe he is like olives or blue cheese – you need to mature into him. I sing in an occasional band, and in the early days it was Cash that provided alot of our early material. Folsom Prison Blues is still a favourite when we sing, and quite right too. Any song that contains the line “I shot a man in Reno/ just to watch him die” has to be a

  1. Love Johnny Cash. I also like him singing remakes. Have you heard him sing “One?” Great.

    • One was the song that turned me on to him, then i went back through his old stuff and discovered how great he was. I love the covers too, like “personal jesus” and “hurt. basically he can sing anything, and make it his own.

  2. Johnny Cash is the Man. I really only came to appreciate him fully after he died, unfortunately. His remakes are achingly beautiful, especially “Hurt,” but all of his music is really profound.
