Merry Merry

25 December, 2012

I’ve mentioned before that I don’t bother to decorate the flat at Christmas – there’s no point as I live on my own and don’t usually invite anyone round – but there is one festive adornment that stays up all year round. My Mum knitted this father christmas many years ago, and it is one of very few things I own that she gave me. I used to keep him in the cupboard for the rest of the year and put him on the shelf every December but for the last ten years or so, I have stopped putting him away and now he is always in the room, always watching from a corner.

Merry Christmas everyone, and I raise a glass to you and to those whose absence we feel that much more acutely this time of year.
