Resolutions Shmesolutions

3 January, 2013

If I REALLY want to take up backgammon, or start volunteering at a charity shop, or collect nineteenth century tobacco tins, or do 3000 situps a day, then I’ll do it. Who cares what the date is.

If I REALLY want to give up beer, or cheese, or biscuits, or cheese and biscuits, I will do it now, I’m not going to wait another 361 days till the next NYE comes round.

Just because it’s January, why pretend you are going to force yourself to do  / not do something you don’t actually want  / not want to do. You are kidding yourself. I’m all for self-improvement, but improve yourself or the world around you because it’s the right thing to do, not because you’ve broken the shrinkwrap on your new calendar.

Happy New Year!

  1. Hmmmmm cheese and biscuits nom nom nom 😀

  2. I just blogged about this very subject and the first blog in my reader is yours. I totally agree mate.

  3. But New Years gives us a good excuse to lie to ourselves and imagine that willpower is something that we get when we are older. I’m older. I’m still waiting.
