I didn’t go for a drink with GAW

30 January, 2013

It has been so stupidly busy at work for… oh, about six months now… to the extent that i rarely get time to go on a tea run with GAW anymore. We sometimes grab a few minutes to gossip over the dividing cupboard, but even then i have to cut it short as i have so much to do. Combined with my sort-of decision that i wasn’t going to actively pursue her anymore i have been wondering for a while whether she has also cooled on the friendship. It’s probably just that i am so busy, i tried to tell myself,  it feels to me that we are a bit more distant and i am projecting as usual.

It was her birthday last week, greetings and cards were handed over, she brought cakes in. Standard stuff. The saturday following – 2 days later – she posted pictures on FB of the drinks she had gone for after work on the Friday. About a dozen people went, some of whom aren’t in her department, some of whom i know she has little time for. But i had known nothing about any birthday drinks. Cue paranoia, and an assumption my worries were correct.

On Monday, she came over to my desk, crouched next to my chair, and asked me a work-related question. Once i had answered, she gossiped a bit, and the subject of her drinks came up. “Yeah,” i said, “i saw on FB you’d gone to the pub.”

“You should have come,” she said in a disappointed voice.

“I would have if i’d known you were going out,” I said, “the first i knew was when you posted those pics.”

“Awww,” she said with a sad face and a hand of my arm, “Didnt you know? I’m sorry, i should have told you.” She was genuinely concerned that i hadn’t gone. My worries that our friendship was drifting were eased. That made me relieved and happy. And the fact that from where i was sat i could see down her top was just a nice bonus.

  1. LOVE the last sentence! Way to go, O Henry. 😉

Lol. You haven’t talked about her in a while and I guess this is why. Nice little reward at the end.

  3. When in the Hell are you going to ask her out?

  4. State of Grace permalink

Hmmm, something doesn’t ring true to me. I would be inclined to go with your initial wonderings…not wanting to be negative, just a feeling… 😦

  5. And the fact that from where i was sat i could see down her top was just a nice bonus. And…. he’s back! 😉

You know it would have been a let down, you probably would have drooled over he bday attire, and your decision to not per-sue her, would have gone out of the window…
