He was trying to be invisible, unnoticed, but something about the way he studied the pieces fascinated me. When I persuaded him into conversation, his passion for art and my work were clear, even before he knew who I was.

We became friends, and after his divorce, he regained the confidence to love again. And to sculpt again In two years since we married, he has soared ahead of me. The exhibitions he was once too shy to promote gained him residencies, awards, money. And self-belief. Now I’m the one desperately clinging to his ankles as he reaches higher, further.
