Choon Choosday: Peter Gabriel – Mercy Street

SO was the second album I bought on CD back in 1987 when I got my first ever CD player. (He said, showing his age). It’s a brilliant album, perfectly produced and ideally suited to what was new digital technology. Alot of people will tell you it’s all about Sledgehammer (and its unforgettable video ), some will say it’s the infinitely optimistic Don’t Give Up duet with Kate Bush whch I nearly picked.
For me it’s Mercy Street. Sublime bass, exquisite vocal harmonies, and beautiful lyrics that to be honest I have never 100% understood, but I adore the way they sound. But above all it’s the fact this makes me cry that makes it a

  1. I almost forgot how much I love Peter Gabriel’s voice. His voice is amazing and the song is very moving. Another favorite song I love is his duet with Kate Bush “Don’t Give Up.” 1986 year I graduated Highschool. Both songs are so beautiful. You may have a “Fuck It” list, but don’t ever give up Gentleman.

    • I could have chosen anything of this album to be honest. And i havent given up, but i have adjusted my expectations
