Friday Fictioneers – Top Shelf

26 April, 2013

According to my calendar, it’s Friday. And that means it’s time for FriFic. Eternal gratitude to Rochelle for her work as Chief FriFicer, and for this week’s prompt:

I’ve written 100 words. If you fancy leaving a few of your own to let me know what you think, that would be lovely.

On the night before their wedding, they had promised there would never be secrets between them again. But after a few months she realised that his love would not survive all of her darkest fears and deepest desires. For him as much for herself, she confided again in a diary, hiding her thoughts in the handwritten pages secreted on the highest of her bookshelves.

When she entered the study that morning, the wooden steps had been left by that highest shelf. She approached, shaking with a dreadful apprehension, and saw her most recent volume still open on the top step.

  1. Uh oh. Perhaps he’ll be accepting of her secrets? I hope.

  2. Nailed that photo… good one!

  3. Secrets! At least he didn’t try to cover up his misdeed. Perhaps now a new openness.

  4. Dear RG,
Very nice take on the prompt. Sounds like it’s time for a young couple to spill their secrets to one another.

  5. Love it, leaving us hanging… what will happen next? I can hear the announcer for the daytime soaps… will he… ? will she…..?
