Choon Choosday: The White Stripes – Stop Breaking Down

4 June, 2013

Something a bit different this week. I’m no real fan of guitar music, I’m not bothered about Blues. OK that’s not 100% true, I like what I like and only really respect two genres of music – Good or Bad (the ratio between the two on these ChCh posts is something you can decide for yourself). If a tune happens to be Blues then so be it., for example I DO like Robert Johnson who I discovered through this cover by The White Stripes. As usual Meg’s drumming is amateurish rooky unsophisticated straight to the point, but you won’t hear a better guitar performance outside of a Hendrix album. Jack takes the Robert Johnson original, turns it up to 11 and rips it a new arsehole.

  1. there’s something a little bit spectacular about the White Stripes and their stripped down approach to music (it’s ok Meg, playing drums isn’t easy :D) and yeah, Jack sure knows how to make his guitar talk!!! (what? no early Faces or Jeff Beck?)

    • i’m being maybe a bit harsh on Meg. She isnt the most sophisticated drummer true, but that doesnt diminish from the contribution. this song isnt just Jack’s efforts.
as for Faces or Jeff Beck… I know theyre british and all that but erm… no. Sorry 🙂
