Choon Choosday: Deacon Blue – Your Town

I think it’s the guy’s voice that annoys me about Deacon Blue. That and the softly jingly jangly popness of their music. I used to work in a restaurant that played videos for the punters’ entertainment and we had a Deacon Blue concert that used to get played about once a week or so. My god, that was always the longest hour of my shift.

But Your Town is a different class, I even bought it. It’s darker, it’s more interesting, the guitar is less folky and more wallofsoundish, and the vocal has effects on it which disguise it a bit. Overall, Deacon Blue are pretty high up on the list of Bands I Can’t Stand, but Your Town is a
