Friday Fictioneers – Koi

Friday’s golden fingers stretch across the november sky, feeling its way nervously into a new day and a new month. Friday means FriFic of course. You know the drill by now – Rochelle posts a picture prompt and we write a 100-word story it inspires. Click here to visit Rochelle’s site and take part, click here to see the pic fully.

Here is this week’s prompt:




Time is very short this week so not my best effort, but here are my 100 words:


The sentry saw the smoke beyond the next mountain and knew the invading army would soon be at the gates.

The Daimyo declared the safest course of action was to flee their ruthless, murderous destruction. It would not be possible to take any valuables – their worth would be nothing in the forest, their weight would only slow them down. Cast them into the river for the Water Goddess to preserve until their return.

The brightly coloured stones and metals caused deep, foaming ripples on the water’s surface. And when it stilled, fish of red and green and gold gathered.
