Friday Fictioneers – Garden

3 January, 2014

Happy new year everyone! Here’s to a great 2014 for us all, and to 52 more wonderful prompts from Rochelle, the Queen of FriFic.

Speaking of prompts, here is the first of the year:

And my muse spoke thus:

Mother placed the toast on the breakfast table, and glanced through the kitchen window.

“Jack!” she shouted furiously, “Come here!”

Jack appeared at the kitchen door. “What’s happened?” he asked nervously.

“This is your doing!”

His eye followed her finger, pointing to the garden.

“I heard you outside last night,” she said, her voice and finger both quivering with anger, “digging in the dark till all hours.”

Jack dashed to the window. “They’ve grown!” he cried. Then he saw the problem.

“If you must insist on planting magic beans,” Mother said with contempt, “don’t do it where the dog sleeps.”

  1. Magic beans! I like that you looked at the photo from another angle, with the dog rising in a tree while it slept. Cool!

  2. Dear RG,

You made me laugh and almost spew my coffee. Good one.

  3. Great job! Finally, a plausible explanation as to how the dog got up there–magic beans 🙂 🙂

  4. Great one… though it might have been a magic acorn this time…

  5. Oh, very, very good!!

  6. Charming! I love the blending of FF with fairy tale. The dialogue is very good, and until that final line, the story was unique unto itself. That final line brilliantly ties it to fairy tale and left this reader smiling. 😉

  7. This might well be my favorite this week.

  8. LOVE!!!! 😀
