A Huge Evergrowing Pulsating Brain… is The Orb’s high point, and this is the best of the numerous versions released – the performance recorded for the legendary John Peel’s show. I doubt many if any of you have 20 minutes to spare to listen to the whole of this, and I would expect even less of you to like it, but this is an epic, ground-breaking choon. Packed with sampled riffs, effects, spacelike sounds which echo in and out, animal squawks and squeaks, vocal samples that have become part of music legend – “Oh my gosh, the music just turns me on” and “You’re a disc jockey? Huh huh huh! What’s that?” are particular favourites – and then there is the angelic voice of Minnie Ripperton. This track is like a journey from I don’t know where to I don’t know where but it travels though every obscure and inspired corner of the brains of Alex Paterson and Jimmy Cauty.

This is musical history, this is musical genius, this is music that simply wasn’t being made by anyone else at the time,  this is musical inspiration. Oh, and this is quite simply a
