Choon Choosday: Herbie Hancock – Wiggle Waggle

24 February, 2014

I’ve mentioned before that I like a bit of jazz, but to be honest my knowledge is pretty patchy. I am of the “I don’t know much about it but I know what I like” school of jazz appreciation. As a consequence I have no idea what genre of jazz this little beauty from Hancock’s “Fat Albert Rotunda” album falls into and to be honest does it matter? There are only two genres of music that are important anyway – Good or Bad.

This was released way back in 1969 but still sounds fresh. After the little chordy prologue, that guitar riff intro tells you that you won’t be sat still for the next five and a half minutes. And then a nice drum fill ushers one of the best horn section riffs I’ve ever heard. If for some reason none of this gets your feet a-tappin of your head a-noddin then check your pulse.

EDIT: There seems to be have been some sort of calendar malfunction in my head and I scheduled this for Monday by mistake. Oops. Ah well, you get to enjoy this one day sooner than intended. For one week only, it’s Chon Monday!
