Choon Choosday: The Upsetters – Return of Django
Whagwannin bredren! Feelin irie dis marnin and ting! On Thursday this week, I will be in a tiny 300-place venue to nod my head and stomp my boots to the legend that is Lee Scratch Perry. Scratch is a true legend, fifty-plus years in the business and the best known of the original breed of Jamaican producers that brought reggae to the world. His remixes and use of reverb and heavy bass created the Dub sound, without which movements like Trip Hop, Dubstep and Grime would just not exist.
This is a personal favourite of this correspondent who happens to be a huge fan of the old Jamaican ska. Pull on your boots, turn it up to twelve. If you can hear the neighbours banging on the wall then you’re not playing it loud enough.
