Choon Choosday: UB40 – Don’t Let It Pass You By

6 May, 2014

I really should have the lyrics to this tattooed on the back of my hand, so that at all times I make myself realise life is whizzing past at an ever-increasing pace. If I am ever to achieve the dream of being a professional writer, if I am going to have any sort of future beyond being a desk jockey until I retire at a much later age than my contemporaries, I need to heed these words. Anyway, enough self-analysis, bring on the music.

UB40 are not the most influential reggae outfit, but they are Britain’s most successful. To be honest though, they have barely made a decent tune since 1982. Their shark-jumping album was Labour of Love on which they turned into a radio-friendly pop combo with a tendency towards the off-beat. This week’s choon comes from the good old days of their early “Present Arms” album, back when they had proper reggae credentials and turned up the bass nice and loud. And this is the album version so you get the extended toasting at the end. You’re welcome.

I’m sure all the black and mixed race guys in the band love the white reggae band comment.

One part to being a good blogger/writer is doing research.
