Choon Choosday: Radiohead – Ceremony

10 June, 2014

I was surprised to discover I hadn’t already posted this as part of ChCh, I usually link it from Facebook at least once a year.

I’ve said a few times before that I don’t really do guitar music but I there are exceptions – for example, Radiohead. They are one of the greatest bands of the modern age – always thinking, always moving forward.

Very few bands are good enough to take on a Joy Division tune and do it justice. Radiohead manage it. They do more than that in fact, this is quite magnificent, probably my favourite musical clip on YouTube. I barely do it justice by only calling it a

  1. I had never heard this cover, and although generally I am not a fan of cover versions I did enjoy it, I am glad they left my favs alone though

    • i know what you mean, covers are rarely an improvement or even equal (Except maybe some of Johnny Cash’s late works, One and Hurt in particular)
But this comes very close to the genius of the original. His vocal is i think better than Sumner, would noone can match Ian Curtis

      • Hmmm see I like both Curtis and Sumner for different songs, my favourite Joy Division songs, Love will tear us Apart and Atmosphere I fully believe only Curtis could sing those truly but my favourite New Order song is Bizarre Love triangle which Sumner excels on

      • very good point. Sumner and Curtis have v different voices and the JD/NO tunes suit them individually. Youve named some of my faves too but my top JD tune has to be Dead Souls – again, noone could match Ian.
The first version of LWTUA i heard was the Paul Young one. i know, how embarrassing!
