Friday Fictioneers – Gift

19 December, 2014

100 words? That doesn’t sound like very many. The knack is to make those 100 words count, and to speak beyond their own limits to tell a wider story. That’s the challenge that Rochelle sets every week with her FriFic prompt email. Writers in over a million countries join in the weekly wordly workout, and produce over 100 billion stories. Here is the pic for this week:

Being the last Friday before Christmas I thought I’d give this one a festive theme:

Sally gasped, her two foremost limbs held to her surprised arachnid face as Simon handed her his gift. “You shouldn’t have,” she beamed.

Two midlimbs picked at the red, besnowmanned giftwrap. “What is it?” she giggled, tearing open a corner of the paper, revealing a waxy brown carapace. “Oh, it couldn’t be,” she squealed. But as more of the sparkly wrapping came away, she realised it was.

“An African Tsetse,” she cried, devouring a leg with a satisfied sigh, “my favourite! Where did you find one in December?”

“Oh you know,” Simon shrugged nonchalantly, “I got it off the web.”

  1. Dear RG

Now that’s a festive story with eight charming legs. Your last line made me laugh out loud. Clever. Very clever.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

  2. Dear TRG,

One of the best last lines this week. Loved your story and it’s festive nature. Enjoy the Holidays.

    Aloha,

    Doug

  3. I agree with Rochelle. Very clever! I loved it. 😀

  4. “I got it off the web.” Ha-ha. Really besnowmanned. Whatever that means.

  5. Ha.. yes and the web is truly world wide these days..

  6. Aaaahhhh…the web! Lol…that was good.

  7. Now that is the funniest one I’ve read this week. Well done! I love to start my day with a grin.

  8. This is great! Thanks for a early morning chuckle. Love the besnowmanned paper. Cheers and happy holidays.

  9. Cute characters, and a funny punchline. I’m glad Simon took the trouble to wrap the fly attractively – he’s a thoughtful spider.

  10. Dear TRG, WOW – what a clever story and a snappy last line! You did the bugs proud! Happy Christmas to all and to all a good night! Nan 🙂
