Choon Choosday: Ken Bishop’s Nice Twelve – Subterranean Homesick Blues

We’re all familiar with the term “one hit wonder” – bands or artists that only troubled the chart compilers once in their careers, but often with enormous success. Nena’s “99 red ballooons” for example, or Aled Jones’ “walking in the air” some to mind.

But this week I bring you a no hit wonder. Ken Bishop’s Nice Twelve were a loose collective of just over half that number of artists, none of which were called Ken Bishop. They gathered for one reason and one performance – to record a copy of the Dylan classic for an episode of the classic 80s BBC sitcom The Young Ones. The record was never released, and indeed wasn’t even featured on the original DVD release. Luckily it is on the DVD now, and on YouTube, so we can all enjoy Mike, Rik, Vyvyan and Neil interspered among the majesty of this
