Choon Choosday: The Muppets – For What It’s Worth

4 August, 2015

I love The Muppets, always have done, and when I was younger I had two LPs of songs and scenes and jokes. Okay, I still have them now and I can still quote them word for word. One of my favourites was this one. My older and wiser brother pointed out to me at the time that the song had been written by Buffalo Springfield as an anti-war, anti-Vietnam protest song but The Muppets, being The Muppets, put their own interpretation on it. Keeping the pathos and the bemusement of the original, they made it about hunting animals.

I dedicate this to Cecil the Lion, and to all other beautiful, majestic and independent animals who dont deserve to end their lives as some rich dickhead’s trophy. For all of them, I offer this

  1. I grew up in the counrtyside, hunting for rabbits for there is perfectly normal but even when done for pest control the animals are consumed, nothing was ever allowed to go to waste, but I cannot understand those who hunt for sport, sport suggests a fair contest, if these people want to hunt a lion for sport they should go wrestle it with their bare hands if they win then fair enough they deserve a trophy but to lure it with food, blind it with spotlights while they shoot it with a bow and arrow then follow it for 40 hours, these are the people that need removing from the gene pool if the human race stands any chance of peace in the future.

    • I totally agree Paula. Whether it be chasing foxes or shooting lions and elephants, how killing can be justified in the name of sport escapes me.
