Choon Choosday: Harry J Allstars – The Liquidator

22 September, 2015

My love of ska and reggae is well-documented, and this is one of the finest examples of the genre.  Beloved of various football clubs, The Liquidator is a classic in every sense of the word. The fantasic walking bassline is one of the most well-known , but it’s all about Winston Wright on the Hammond. Just magnificent. A

  1. This brings back so many memories. The church I was Christened in became The West Indian Club – living nearby I was brought up with reggae beats. Who doesn’t remember the fair on Southampton Common alive with the Liquidator?

    • It’s a classic tune and no mistake! I was a bit further away from the beats, growing up over near Bitterne, but I’ve still developed a love of ska and reggae

      • I once lived near the Bitterne pub – but then I have lived all over Southampton. It is a great city for culture. I am no singer but loved singing and dancing in all the Cole Porter musicals in Am-Dramatics. I also have a collection of Ella Live LPs but no room for a record player – will get around that one day.

      • What theatres have you performed in?

      • The Gaumant (before it became The Mayflower), Mountbatten Theatre (now part of Solent Uni), The Nuffield Theatre. Then some theatres in Portugal and Spain (Salon Varietes) when I lived there. Also do a bit of street theatre. Next up is with my husband as a spoilt aristocrat couple in Dickensian costume for Portsmouth Historical dockyard Festival of Christmas 27-27 Nov. He gets far more work than me.

      • That’s a very impressive CV 🙂
