Choon Choosday: Roy Davis Jr – Gabriel

9 February, 2016

Can this really be twenty years old, it sounds like it could be from today, or from 1972. A solid gold classic from the late 90s, a tune that defines the soul / worldwide sound that Gilles Peterson is well known for playing.

It’s the glitchy 2-step rhythm line, the glorious horn section in the chorus, and of course above all it’s Peven Everett’s vocal that makes this an absolute

  1. Wonderful and laid back. I was abroad when this was out so great to hear it now.

I can’t tell you how much I needed this just now. It’s perfection.

(I haven’t read you in ages! Years, I suppose. I was overjoyed to see you linked to on another blog, so I promptly popped over to get reacquainted. I look forward to catching up on your music and writing. —Don’t worry that you don’t remember me; I have no idea which of my many names I was using back then.)
