Choon Choosday: Prodigy – Spitfire

8 March, 2016

The Spitfire is the iconic fighter plane that won the Battle of Britain in 1940 and by extension World War Two. It has a destinctive sound, a classic design and is loved by everyone in Britain.

It was designed by RJ Mitchell and first built in the Supermarine factory right here in Southampton, just along the river from where I live, and the City as a whole are enormously proud to be the birthplace of this beautiful machine.

This weekend was the 80th anniversary of the first flight along the River Itchen, and in between the bad weather we have been treated to flypasts by some of the very few planes still flying.

Happy Birthday the Spitfire. In humble tribute I offer this

  1. I see a home-made replica is expected to make £10,000 at a WW2 auction

  2. I am pretty upset I left my camera at home when they flew past. Wonderful tribute – I love Prodigy.
