Choon Choosday: The Muppets – Simon Smith and his Amazing Dancing Bear

12 April, 2016

I may have mentoned about a million times in the past that I am a big fan of The Muppets, and that Fozzie is my all-time comedy hero. Yes his jokes are old and generally bad but he has such a defiantly positive attitude when he is onstage, even when it’s going wrong, and he embraces the “Show Must Go On” spirit.

Two of my most prized items in my music collection are the two Muppet Show LPs they brought out to accompany the first two series. I don’t know how many times I’ve played them, I know every word and love every track. This one comes from the first album and features Scooter and Fozzie. The Bear isn’t too happy about having to wear a chain but before long the artist in him wins him over and he is singing, dancing, wiggling his ears – genuinely enjoying being on stage.

So it’s a philosophical message of hope on one level. And on another it’s a damn fine
