Friday Fictioneers – Snow

16 February, 2018

It’s FriFic time again folks.

That magical time of the week when we all receive Rochelle‘s email and scratch our heads over the prompt pic therein

This week’s pic comes from Dale Rogerson and everyone in the FriFicin’ family has written 100 words of fiction in response. You can read them all over at Froggy Island, and you can read mine below…

I’ve barely slept these last ten nights, since our decision to switch off the machine.

I sit at the window, Dad’s favourite whisky in hand, watching the overnight snow. He always loved winter weather. Not because he thought it was picturesque, nor from a fondness for skiing. No, he enjoyed sitting at the window, watching pedestrians slip over, cars bump into each other.

If these conditions persist, the undertakers may try to cancel the funeral tomorrow, but I’ll insist we go ahead. The hearse sliding along the street, claiming every neighbour’s wingmirror along the way, would be the perfect sendoff.

  1. Dark and very funny

  2. A dark chuckle!

  3. Let’s be honest, there is always something hilarious in watching people fall over. Nicely woven tale.

  4. Dale permalink

I love it! The perfect sendoff!

  5. If it went ahead I bet he was smiling in his coffin! Delightful.

  6. Dear TRG,

The deceased had a wicked sense of humor. Guess you could call it deadpan. Love it.

  7. Very delightful take on the prompt. A light-hearted funeral, perhaps?

  8. Awww…that was amusingly sweet.
