Friday Fictioneers – Toast

I haven’t had time to FF the last two weeks because, as you will know if you follow my Choon Choosday posts (which nobody does, so don’t feel bad that you don’t), I’m away on holiday at the moment.

But this week, despite still being away, I’ve managed to respond to Rochelle‘s post featuring this image:

“Be subtle,” Claire’s friends told her, “make him think it’s his idea.”

Mark began spreading his morning Marmite.

“Look,” he grinned, “this toast has a hole in it.”

“Oh really?” Claire said, innocently.

“Shaped like a heart.” He showed her. “This must a sign.”

“Sign?” Claire’s hand scratched at her empty ring-finger, apparently absent-mindedly.

Mark put his toast down, took Claire’s hand. “I realise now what this means, what I’ve been missing.”

Claire hid her spreading smile, ignored her speeding heartbeat.

“We are always lead by hearts…” Mark said.


“…so tonight I’ll lead with clubs. That’s how I’ll win!”
