Choon Choosday: Sigur Rós – Fljótavík
Who doesn’t love Sigur Rós, right? OK there have been unfortunate and regrettable (and if proved, hateful) reports around their now-ex drummer last year but I’m not here to talk about that. This link is here to share with you the extraordinary beauty of their music, particularly of more recent years when they have worked with strings and other elements of the orchestra to bring even more added depth to their extraordinary and unique sound.
They could only have originated from a country as culturally unique as Iceland, which is just one of many reasons to love this piece. And, of course, this is an absolute
chooooooooooooooooooonn!!
I saw them play at the Eden project; one of the most middle class gigs I’ve ever been to but absolutely spellbinding!
I’m very jealous, I’ve never seen them live. Hope to one day. I’ve seen their Heima concert film in a cinema in Reykjavík though
Cool, Reychavik is a wonderful place, I keep trying to persuade my wife we should go there
Oh yes you must, I’ve been twice and loved it
I went in December and for 2 weeks in June, we drove around the island in a Vauxhall Astra, mental place pricey though!!
I’ve seen some of the South, my next visit will be up to Akureyri and the North. I’d love to go on June for the long days!
Yes never gets dark! I saw blue whales up in Akureyri on a tour, that was very cool. We camped all the way round, one day I shouted “Iceflow!” Haven’t done that since
An awesome trip all round!
Some great music coming out of Iceland, I’ve just discovered this bloke called Yagya; you should check out rigning, it’s sublime. His latest is brilliant too, both best played loud and in entirety!
I’ll put them on my list
